Are you a transformational leader?

Transformational leaders inspire and motivate their followers to do more and be more. They create high performing teams who work together towards a shared mission and vision.[i]
While transformational leadership is a scientifically studied style of leadership, it isn’t rocket science.
Be a good role model. Set an example. Inspiring others to do likewise. Those form the core ingredients of transformational leadership. I’ll bet you do these already!
Great scriptural examples include Paul leading from his relationship with the younger Timothy:
“You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also”. (II Timothy 2:1-2)
We can all work towards more transformational leadership in our ministries and work.
And we can start by furthering our emotional intelligence skill. (Well, it actually starts by connecting with God but that’s a different article.)
Research demonstrates high correlation between emotional intelligence and transformational leadership. Leaders who score high in transformational leadership styles also score high in emotional intelligence. One more reason to boost your emotional intelligence skill!
Self-awareness (or personal insight) and empathy (relational insight) seem to be the most important emotional intelligence skills necessary for employing transformational leadership.
So I would challenge you: build your emotional intelligence skills; become a better leader.
